FAQ about birth, prenatal care and postpartum care

How much does it cost?

I have of course found that the majority of people have no idea of the cost of midwifery care or the amazing bargain they are getting when they choose this one-on-one, tailored to your individual needs, collaborative care. My base package price is $4500 and I do offer a discount for early pay or handling your own insurance billing.

What is included in your basic package price with Wildflower Midwifery?

The price includes up to 14 regular prenatal visits, birthkit, use of an inflatable birth tub, labor, birth and immediate postpartum care for mom and baby, birth assistant fee, meds and newborn screening for baby if desired and up to 4 postpartum visits. Home visits are scheduled for 36 weeks and the first two postpartum visits are in your home.  Following the birth there is a complete examination of the newborn and commemorative foot prints completed. I also file your birth certificate information and social security card request. I serve clients in Minnesota for a birth within 100 miles of my home in Zimmerman.

Can I get ALL my visits in my home with Wildflower Midwifery?

Yes! I still offer all in-home visits for those living within 50 miles of Zimmerman. There is an additional fee of $200 for 1-25 miles from Zimmerman and $400 for 26-50 miles. (special pricing on home visits for repeat clients within 50 miles)

What is not included in the package price with Wildflower Midwifery?

The price does not include laboratory testing, birth pool supplies, any referred services (such as ultrasound or care by other providers including a hospital transfer if necessary), additional fees for twins or childbirth classes. Placenta encapsulation is not included but is an available service provided under separate contract at a lower rate for Wildflower birth clients.

What happens next?

If you are interested in a home birth and want to meet with me, please send me a message through my contact page or give me a call. We can chat and discuss a meeting time and place for a no obligation interview. Interviews usually last from one to one and a half hours and are available in day or evening hours. If we decide to work together I will ask you to sign a contract and provide a $500 deposit. I take a small number of clients due each month and your deposit ensures you a place.

What is a first appointment like?

At your first appointment we will go over your health history including any previous pregnancy and delivery. We will discuss your current pregnancy symptoms and how it has been going to this point. We will complete any remaining paperwork and I will do a keep-your-clothes-on mini physical. If you are 10 weeks or more we can listen to baby with the doppler. If you choose to use the fetascope only, we can hear baby after 20 weeks. I will also do your initial blood draw for the OB panel which includes blood type, rubella status, HIV, Hep B & C, Syphilis, CBC,and antibody status. We will discuss nutrition and exercise and I will answer any questions you have. The first appointment usually lasts about one to one and a half hours.

Where do you see clients?

I have offices in Zimmerman and Buffalo. I also offer all in home visits if you reside within 50 miles of Zimmerman. Currently I do visits on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Can I find out if its a boy or a girl before a 20 week ultrasound or if I don't want to do any ultrasounds?

You sure can!  Learn the sex of baby within 3 days!

I now offer the Sneak Peek gender test! A simple blood test after 8 weeks gestation and you will know if its a boy or a girl for just $129. Call or email me to set up an appointment! Learn more: www.sneakpeektest.com/early-clinical-baby-gender-blood-test

My practice is full until April 2022 due dates. When my birth calendar is full, I will still do Sneak Peek testing, placenta encapsulation and lactation consults.

Please look to mccpm.org for additional homebirth midwife options for the times my calendar is full.

Footprints are placed on a commemorative birth certificate.

Baby's heel is warmed to help with blood flow for the metabolic screening test.
